When we ask clients which room(s) in the home are most important to them, or the most used, almost always the response is: the kitchen!
No surprise there. Our kitchens are where we gather at the start of our days to fuel up and where we connect with our families at the end of a busy day. The kitchen is where we come together with extended family and friends during the holidays, or even just a casual weekend for fun.
What makes a kitchen more inviting? What creates a kitchen that photographs like the ones we all see and dream about on Pinterest? The answer is probably more simple than you imagine: it’s the lighting!
So how do you choose the right lighting for your kitchen? We completed some homework on your behalf and found some great information from Pottery Barn! Using these tips will help brighten up your current kitchen, or help you in finding the right design selections for the home you are having built.
Evaluate The Space:
According to Pottery Barn, minimal windows, dark finishes, and tall ceilings create a dark room that needs more supplemental lighting than a room with lots of windows and bright finishes. Dark surfaces tend to absorb light while light surfaces reflect it around the room. Make note of the natural lighting in the room throughout the day to begin working on your plan to brighten the kitchen. Make sure to also note which spaces are the most active so your work areas are safely lit.
